Isaura-Athina (DW)

As musical chairs we made a play-installation with ‘spectactors’. Stories and sounds of the city played as they moved around a chair circuit scattered around the theatre building. The sounds and stories overlapped increased and descreased in volume asking the sitters to make an agreement, bump into each other, race, take it slow, out-noise each other.

The stories were built from a number of listening trips around the city whilst reading from the book, Calvino’s invisible cities, mapping the city as many in overlap, harmony and conflict. The stories from the book were read by community members and overlapped on a loop circuit along with the city sounds.
This is the first public test of a longer term project of public sound and story interventions in development: we are working on circuits for a public bench, and an abandoned quarry in Athens.
